Will today’s front page Los Angeles Times story, "You may not be getting all you pay for at the pump" help stop at least one gasoline scam?

The article recounts how the hot fuel scam is costing California motorists about 3 cents per gallon when the mercury rises to 75 degrees, and in the current 90 degree heat about 6 cents per gallon, since gas stations do not adjust for temperature.

Congressman Dennis Kucinich is holding hearings on June 7th and California weights and measures regulator Dennis Johannes is saying the problem is serious.   California Attorney General Jerry Brown has yet to chime in, but hot fuel is still the only gasoline related problem that has garnered a political response in California so far this year.

Where is the political establishment on the high price of gasoline in California? Prices here are 55 cents higher and not a single state officeholder has cried fowl.  Who isn’t afraid of Big Oil? That is the question given the deafening political silence over the high price of gasoline. The San Jose Mercury News reported today that Arnold took in more money from Chevron, so that’s whose script the action hero’s following. Legislative leaders have recently been traveling the globe on oil-funded junkets, which show they do have an impact.

It’s time for a few hundred thousand of our friends to weigh in with the Governor and statehouse politicians to let them know we know that we’re being ripped off and they better act.   That’s why we have our petition to the Gov and legislative leaders.  We’re also thinking about putting up "Missing" posters on every street corner in Sacramento offering a reward for politicians seen talking about the high price of gasoline. If you have an idea about how to embarass the politicians into some action, please add a comment below.
