Help! E-mail or call your Senator now (see suggested message below), to keep alive a fix for the ‘hot fuel’ ripoff. Senators intent on hauling home pork, scoring points with contributors and getting the energy bill to a vote can’t be bothered to protect consumers. Make ‘em do it. Otherwise, motorists nationwide will keep losing $2.3 billion a year on fuel that’s expanded from heat, and delivers less energy than we’ve paid for.

Suggested language—change as you please:

Dear Senator,

Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri has submitted a proposal to end the ‘hot fuel’ ripoff that costs U.S. motorists more than $2 billion in extra charges at the pump every year. McCaskill’s measure, the FAIR Fuel Act, would cost only small fraction of that yearly toll to implement permanently. We are already paying exorbitant prices at the pump, and deserve at least a fair measure of fuel for the money. The FAIR Fuel Act should be included in full as an amendment to the energy bill. We ask and expect your support.

Respectfully,
