The energy bill passed the Senate tonight, composed of not much more than the 35 mpg auto standard and some pork for biofuels. But as far as OilWatchdog can tell, a last-minute deal proposed by, of all people, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, to undercut California’s greenhouse emissions law was left out of the bill. A source close to the overall energy bill debate says "as far as we know" the final bill does not include language undercutting the EPA as well as states’ right to require stronger emission restrictions.
The shock of the day was that the proposal was put together by Feinstein of California, with Michigan (auto state) Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin. So, we’ve heard that the plan didn’t make the final version, but since no one has seen the actual language yet, we can’t be sure. OilWatchdog will hold its fire until the bill is clearer.
