The major airlines, which are teetering on the financial edge
because of oil and fuel prices, are a little late to the party on the
effects of unregulated oil markets. But they’ve jumped in now with both
feet, sending e-mails urging their customers to sign a petition to Congress to control energy trading markets. It’s got some similarities to OilWatchdog’s "Send Your Gas Bill to Congress" petition (please sign if you haven’t already!)
There’s no clue on the front page of the new petition, but it’s fully sponsored by airlines, shippers and trucking companies — the same folks adding fuel surcharges that you’re paying on air tickets and groceries. The more the merrier on urging Congress to act instead of moping about how nothing will really affect fuel prices in the short term.
